The Arun Gay Society (TAGS)

The Arun Gay Society (TAGS) was formed in 1982 out of the local branch of CHE (Campaign for Homosexual Equality), which had been meeting in Littlehampton for eight years. TAGS operates primarily as a social group for the LGBT community in the southern part of West Sussex, but members come from much further afield.

We welcome men and women of all ages who can subscribe to our aims and pay a modest annual membership fee.

Our regular gatherings offer a relaxed social atmosphere and among the members there are fully qualified counsellors able to give help to those facing particular difficulties and many who are willing to offer purely practical advice and information.

We meet informally, at least twice each month, once in a seafront pub in Worthing and the other time at a member’s home which consists mainly of a straightforward coffee evening or, at times, a specially laid-on party.

In addition, we organise excursions to places of interest and larger events like the occasional disco and bigger parties.  It is for these that we draw on a wide circle of friends and supporters to swell the number of members and to ensure that the parties go with a swing.

These supporters as well members meet regularly as “Munchers” and share an evening meal together in various restaurants, usually in ones where there is a special ‘two-for-one’ deal available.

The Society’s day-to-day management falls to a committee which is elected annually at Annual General Meeting in October.  There is also a formal Constitution that governs the technicalities of the Society.

A newsletter called TAGSmag is published regularly for members.

More information is available on our regularly updated website www.tagsonline.org.uk and there is also an online contact address at info@tagsonline.org.uk.  We also maintain a Post Office Box: PO Box 11, Bognor Regis, PO22 6NT
